I am a professional music teacher and passionate artist living in Winchester. After many years of teaching in schools in England and also Germany, I now teach violin and piano from home.
My pupils study for both ABRSM and Trinity exams, but the main focus is achieving a robust technique, good sight reading skills,understanding and enjoying the music. In normal covid free times I also arrange regular pupils' concerts where pupils show off what they have been playing recently and we also do small ensembles.
I have never tired of teaching as it is so rewarding and the children are mostly delightful! With my violin teaching, I am particularly careful with hold and am keen to get through to pupils just how crucial good posture and hold is to playing it well.
Now that I am no longer doing recitals, I have more time to paint in oil and acrylic (sometimes both!) and my paintings reflect what I am drawn to especially the coast and countryside of Southern England. I have recently taken commissions for portraits which I have enjoyed as it gives me the chance to interact with the subject!
I am a member of the Winchester Art Club and have had paintings selected for various exhibitions. In 2017 I was delighted to win the best acrylic award.
To me, music is all about colour and tone, so although they are very different skills, I see them very much interlinked.
